How to get a Passport & Visa to travel to Spain
EVERY PERSON (ADULT AND CHILDREN) WILL NEED A PASSPORT AND VISA TO TRAVEL TO THIS WEDDING.
—
The official website to apply for a U.S. passport is the U.S. State Department's website HERE.
This site provides all the necessary information about applying for a passport, including forms, fees, and how to submit your application.
Determine Eligibility
You must be a U.S. citizen or a non-citizen national. First-time applicants must apply in person at passport agency. You will need a passport book to travel to Spain.
Complete the Application Form
Fill out form corresponding with first time application or renewal for adult and child respectively. This form can be completed online or printed and filled out by hand. Don’t sign it until instructed to do so by a passport acceptance agent.
Gather Required Documents
Proof of U.S. citizenship (e.g., a birth certificate or naturalization certificate)
A valid photo ID (e.g., driver's license)
A recent passport photo (2x2 inches, in color, taken within the last six months). This can be taken at places such as UPS, CVS, Walgreens, and Staples. You can also take your own photo using these specific instructions HERE.
Payment (check or money order made out to "U.S. Department of State" for the application fee). Fee is $165 for an adult first time applicant.
Submit Your Application
Go to a passport acceptance facility (e.g., post offices, libraries) to submit your application. You may need to make an appointment. Please find your local passport application agency HERE.
Track Your Application
After applying, you can track the status of your passport online. Current routine processing times are 4-6 weeks, while expedited processing is available for an additional fee and can take about 2-3 weeks. Please plan ahead and apply for your passport with plenty of time in case processing times increase. Because in 2025 you will need a visa to enter Spain which will require passport information, and the timeline for that process is not clearly understood, please get or renew your passport as soon as possible.
Receiving Your Passport
Passports are mailed to you. If you need it urgently, inquire about expedited services. Passports are good for 10 years for adults and 5 years for children.
