General Travel Tips

Check Passport Validity

Ensure your passport is valid for at least six months beyond your planned return date. MAKE SURE YOUR PASSPORT EXPIRES IN 2026 OR LATER.

Travel Insurance

Consider purchasing travel insurance. It can provide coverage for unexpected cancellations, medical emergencies, or lost luggage.

Packing Essentials

ADAPTERS AND CONVERTERS

The hotel has USB and USBC direct outlets to charge phones. For larger electronics, Spain uses Type C and F plugs 220 Volts, so bring a suitable adapter (e.g., laptop).  It is important to check the voltage to ensure your device is safe to plug in. Heating devices, like hair dryers and curling irons are most likely NOT to be compatible with 220 Volts. Compatible hair dryers are provided by the hotel. We will also have some adapters available if you forget!

COMFORTABLE CLOTHING

Mallorca has a Mediterranean climate. Average temperatures are highs of 80F in June and lows of 64F. Pack light, breathable clothing, and don’t forget swimwear!

Currency and Payments

The currency in Spain is the Euro (€). Consider carrying some cash for small purchases/tips. Do not exchange at airport currency offices as they incur additional fees or if they say No Fees, they may take 10% more by giving you a terrible exchange rate. To get cash, it is cheaper to take it directly from an ATM.  If you ask two weeks in advance, your bank in the US may provide you with Euros.

Credit Cards

Notify your bank of your travel plans to avoid issues with your credit or debit cards. You can also use your apple pay on your phone.  Sometimes a location may ask for a credit card pin (This is a common thing in Europe).  Apple Pay eliminates this issue.

Stay Connected

Check your phone plan for international coverage to avoid international fees. Wifi will be available at the hotel.

Making Calls

If you turn off roaming and use Wifi, you can make calls without incurring extra fees. When you are in Europe, you have to hold down the “0” key until it turns into a plus.  Then 1 is the county code for the USA followed by the area code and phone number.

Safety

Be mindful of your surroundings and belongings and keep purses closed and avoid keeping things in back pockets or back packs if you travel into tourist areas. The hotel has 24/7 security and in general the island is considered safe!

Day of Travel Tips

TIMING

ARRIVE EARLY TO the AIRPORT!

It is suggested you arrive at least 2 hours before an international flight. Airlines will not check your bags if you arrive less than 60 minutes before your flight.

BAGGAGE

If you book a full itinerary (e.g., Cleveland > Newark > Mallorca) all at once, your bags will be checked through to Mallorca when you check them at your local airport. You do not need to pick them up at your connection (e.g., Newark).

YOU NEED TO RECHECK YOUR BAGS AT YOUR CONNECTION ON YOUR FLIGHT HOME! When you fly into a U.S. city after being in another country, you must gather your bags following the immigration desks. You will get your luggage at the baggage claim and follow signs to recheck luggage. Because you need to go through TSA security again, if you have bought any fluids in the gift shops (like perfume or alcohol) you need to place them into your checked luggage or you will be required to leave them behind.

Consider packing a few essentials in a carryon bag in case of lost luggage. Keep baggage tag airport gives you for tracking lost luggage. Keep in mind you are not allowed any liquids in your carry-on bag bigger than 3 oz.
